WEEMIN O’ THE WORD
THE VIRGIN MARY
Dear sisters, we frae time tae time
Had brocht intae oor view
Some weemin o’ the Aulder Word
Noo let us see the New.
Commencin’ wae that blissid lass,
Ower hir ain sex abain,
A virgin in the truest sense,
Who stan’s oot al’ alane.
Each Jewess al’ alang the line
Had hope that she wud bring
Forth the Messiah promis’d lang
Tae be their Saviour King.
So Mary, Joseph’s fair espous’d,
Became that favour’d yin,
The mother o’ God’s only Son,
Wha saves His folk frae sin.
Mary wuz aye a saintly sort,
The meekest o’ the meek,
Wha niver had in al’ her life
The thing we know as cheek.
But wuz mair gien tae thoohtfu’ness
A much neglected art,
Fur as she heard the joyfu’ news
She laid it weel tae heart.
So may that hallowed hymn o’ hirs
Be as a sweet refrain,
Fillin’ each heart wae hope an’ joy
Till we see hir abain.
But meanwhile let hir great advice
Bae acted on bae you,
That what the blissid Master saith
Thou shalt in truth “it do.”
Yer hearts an’ lives bein’ quite pure,
Thanks tae Mary’s first Son,
Whom soon we trust shall say tae each,
“Well done!” my child, “Well done!”
