Loudly flows the great, wide river,

Winding, bending in the sunlight,

Sparkling, gliding o’er the pebbles,

Waving at the coloured flowers,

As she sweetly goes a-humming

Through the meadows, and the lowlands.

Through the drowsy, rustling beech-trees

Flows the sleeping, living river.
