WEE ROSIE

WEE ROSIE

I’m a strapping young man from the banks o’ the Bann
I’ve a tractor, a house and some livestock
Where girls are concerned for them I n’er yearned
Would be nice now if one would just turn up
I met a young posie her name it was Rosie
She gave me the eye as I passed her
I thought over it twice now wouldn’t it be nice
For a date I’ll go over and ask her
She had two big blue eyes that looked up to the sky
And her hair was as shiny as satin
Her waist it was thin on her face was a grin
She was waiting to see what would happen
I was a wee bit afraid of this daring young maid
I thought is she out for to get me
I handered around my feet firm on the ground
But she never once looked over next me
I then got the urge and to her I did surge
Wi’ a heart that was light as a feather
But as I got near in her eyes I saw fear
For she’d never been kissed by a fella
I reached for her hand and together we planned
We would walk down the road by the river
With my hand on her wrist I asked for a kiss
She turned round and shouted, “No never”
I was really upset and for her I did fret
I thought I’d insulted we Rosie
So that very night to put matters right
I found a wee place nice and cosy
We went in and sat down and the waiter came round
He asked us what we were having
But to my surprise before Rosie’s eyes
I remembered I’d a cow that was calving
I ran out in a hurry as home I did scurry
With Rosie there trotting behind
She says can I help but what sorrow I felt
As I’d treated her very unkind
When she saw my wee farm and my wee bit of land
Her eyes lit up like a star
But the best part of all behind the stone wall
I saw her nice new motor car
Now here was my chance my life to enhance
So I asked her if she’d be my wife
With a glint in her eye
She says sure I will try
And make you happy the rest of your life
The very next day we both made our way
To see the clergy and name the big day
It was plain to be seen
Rosie sure was my Queen
On that beautiful morning in May.
