EVENING

I climbed the hill as light did dawn,

And saw the farmers cross the lawn,

And rabbits in their coat of fawn,

In the early moonlight;

The little calves in fields so cold,

As sheep were gathered in the fold,

And saw the dark and lumpy mould,

In the golden moonlight.
