SANDY BALLYMENA MAYOR

SANDY BALLYMENA MAYOR

We’ve got Sandy as our mayor
From Ballywatermoy
He’s been in Ballymena Council since he was just a boy
He never really changes; he has a word for all
You could meet him in the Fair Hill, or at the City Hall
He’ll go to any function no matter where it be
And he’ll wear his chain of office for everyone to see
The visitors to our town they come it’s beauty for to see
Then it’s up into the Town Hall for a friendly cup of tea
A plaque is then presented to visitors one and all
To remind them of the Seven Towers the purpose of their call
They will hear about the history of Ballymena Town
How the Seven Towers came about
Making them world renown
Now Sandy’s quite a character
When it comes to telling a story
No one can pen it quite as well
It comes over in all its glory
Each week we get the papers
The headlines we love to scan
In nearly every page we look
There’s Sandy, “He’s yer man”
They say he keeps a scrap book
Of which I’d love to see
I’d say it must be almost full of all his memories
You’ll see his picture in the press almost every week
He must feel very proud of this
But he still stays “Tongue in Cheek”
So here’s to Sandy as our mayor
Long may he live to serve
And when it’s time to give it up
May he get the praise he deserves.
