James Salmond, son of James Salmond, was born in Scotland.  Educated at Glasgow Universityand United Free Church College, Glasgow, he was assistant to Rev Thos. Whitelaw, M.A., D.D., Kilmarnock, Scotland from 1906-7 before being ordained at Cullybackey on 19^th April 1907.
