PEGGY’S FLIGHT

You have heard of Peggy the poor wee foal
Who was trapped for three hours down a big manhole
A woman out taking her dog for a walk
She sighted the foal and near died with shock
The police were called to the scene right away
When they saw it they called for the USPCA
They all gazed in dismay at the animal’s plight
We must get it removed before the darkness of night
A mechanical digger was brought to the field
They pushed and they pulled still the foal wouldn’t yield
With cutting equipment and vigour so vain
They moved all the soil from the side of the drain
As they worked so hard to comfort the foal
They gave her a sedative while still in the hole
Everyone round her was doing their best
Their main concern was Pegg’s arrest
Confused and bewildered they lifter her out
Peggy sat up and looked all about
If she could speak she would sure shed a tear
She would wish all her helpers a Happy New Year
