Mr Andrew Kennedy J.P.

Andrew Kennedy was born in June 1846 at Tullyreagh, Glarryford, son of the late Andrew Kennedy, linen merchant.  He was educated at  Dunminning,  Carnbeg and private tuition.  He was a Justice of the Peace for County Antrim, a County Councillor for the Galgorm Division, and Chairman of the Ballymena Rural District Council.  For forty years he took an interest in the reform of Irish Land Laws and was the last President of the Tenants’ Defence Association.  Mr Kennedy was also the first President of the Farmers’ and Labourers’ Union and the Chairman and Managing Director of the Ballymena Land Investment Company, Ltd. He married Annie Jane Heaney, Ballyrig and had two sons and four daughters.
