MCCREADY, DORA OCTOBER

OCTOBER

(Written during a particularly early frost)

October is a starving month

With all its starving looks.

It makes the air so sharp and cold,

And freezes all the brooks.

Now trees are drooping down,

For hardships they are here;

Leaves are hurled to the dead, damp ground,

Trembling with fear, trembling with fear.
