BALLYCONNELLY

BALLYCONNELLY

There is a townland in County Antrim
Ballyconnelly is its name
It’s on the outskirts of Cullybackey
On the banks of the River Maine
We have the Cuningham Church with its spire
That seems to reach up to the sky
Up the Dreen Road there’s the beautiful Manse
That seems to catch everyone’s eye
The village has seen many changes
Some better and some not so good
But the townland of Ballyconnelly
Just looks the way that it should
Right up the road you’ll come to Pat’s Cross
Not a lot to look at but still
If you go over the cross you’ll come to Bridge End
And there you’ll see the remains of the old spud mill
There’s a place I would like to mention
It’s the beautiful Diamond School
Where the kids got a good education
But they sure had to go by the rule
The factories where folk made their living
Are now a thing of the past
The Maine Works and Frazer and Haughton’s
Twas impossible for them to last
So here’s to Ballyconnelly with its trees and fields of green
Although it’s not marked on the worlds map
It’s the best you’ve ever seen.
